Cleansing 101: The Foundation of Good Skin

Everything good starts with clean skin. Everything bad starts with over-cleansing.

Why Double Cleansing Works

Oil dissolves oil. Water dissolves water. You need both to fully clean your face.

Step 1: Oil Cleanser

Dissolves sunscreen, makeup, sebum, and pollution. Apply to DRY skin with DRY hands. Massage for 60 seconds. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Water-Based Cleanser

Removes remaining residue, sweat, and bacteria. Choose a low-pH (5.0-6.0) formula. Gently massage. Rinse thoroughly.

💡 Even if you do not wear makeup, double cleanse if you wear sunscreen (which should be every day). Sunscreen is designed to be water-resistant and will not fully come off with one cleanse.

pH Matters

Your skin's natural pH is 4.5-5.5 (slightly acidic). This acid mantle protects against bacteria and moisture loss.

5 Cleansing Mistakes

  1. Using hot water — lukewarm only. Hot water strips oils and damages barrier.
  2. Scrubbing with a towel — pat dry, never rub.
  3. Cleansing more than twice a day — over-cleansing destroys your acid mantle.
  4. Using makeup wipes — they smear makeup around and irritate skin. Not a substitute for actual cleansing.
  5. Skipping the second cleanse — first cleanse removes surface dirt, second actually cleans your skin.
